Lundi Matin

Last week was another hot one. But we persevered and went out drawing. I was cranky so I didn't get very much done, but it was a beautiful place. We went to Fontaine de Vaucluse for the afternoon to get inspired by the cool spring water and lovely greens all around.

The theme for the next portfolio in drawing class is Abstraction. Normally I'm pretty non-representational, so you'd think this would be easy for me, but, alas, I'm taking advantage of the time to try some new techniques and see what happens. It's hard for me to put down my skinny black pen, but I'm trying! Here's an abstract view of the water through the foliage at Fontaine de Vaucluse. It's a good start. Getting the values right is my challenge.

Here's another bit from my abstraction experiments. This time it is the ceiling from the Louise Bourgeois Chapel in Bonnieux. That was our expedition during last week's drawing class. It is a small, rustic chapel built in 1605 that has seen many purposes during its history, including a livestock barn. It is now privately owned and Bourgeois was commissioned to make five pieces for display inside. I was most taken by the overall clean and white space that functions as a background for the art.

And, last but not least, I send a sweaty toast to my friends and family as I wander and see wonderful things on this bright and delightful lundi matin.

A bientot!

Jen
